If we do look at technical capabilities, network is not only a problem by itself, but it's especially problematic in combination with other things.
Network by itself: Can get your IP address
Network + location: Can track your location history
Network + file access: Can steal your files
Network + mic/camera: Can surveil your environment
All of the above is of course even worse if the app is proprietary.
