Yeah, nah. I value XMPP and its community. But nothing about XMPP makes it any more anonymous than email. As for encryption, OMEMO - the variant of Signal's Double Ratchet used with XMPP - is pretty reliable in modern apps like Conversations and Siskin. But a lot of the older apps either don't implement it at all, or their implementations are a pretty patchy. Syncing encrypted chats between apps can be particularly hit-and-miss.
