The block reward (50 #Bitcoin) in the Genesis block are effectively worthless because the protocol rules didn’t allow these particular coins to be spent.
New coins can only be earned by mining, and Satoshi himself refused to accept a one-block head start for himself.
Further emphasising his explizit refusal to enjoy unfair advantage over other #Bitcoin users, Satoshi also included proof that he hadn’t been mining privately in the weeks prior to making the code publicly available by embedding a headline from January 3rd in the Genesis block.
