IBM Research was recruiting teachers to teach FORTRAN (1st high-level programming language) to new employees. Needing to pay off student loans & having taken some basic computing courses, she took the job, teaching FORTRAN while learning it herself. She had intended to return to teaching high school but instead stayed with IBM for 45 years. In 1959 she was assigned to the Harvest project for code breaking for the NSA & worked on the Alpha computer language. 🧵2/n
