My dad passed away tonight at his nursing home. I did manage to go see him a few hours before he died. His struggle with dementia is finally over after 10 years.
He was in bad shape at the end as on Monday he had decided he no longer wanted to live and had stopped eating or drinking. He was 88.
Dementia robbed me of getting to share my career success with him and he never got to really see where we had moved out to the countryside. I am sad but it’s really hard to miss someone who hasn’t been there for a decade.
RIP Dad.
