It's a little disturbing how many conversion reports in the 1690s mention food as a driving force. It's almost like social services were being used to force a set of beliefs on parishioners
And, that's true on both the reformed and the Catholic sides
When the question becomes "what will you say in order to live," I'm not sure that "saying" and "believing" are tied together anymore
