From what I recall from genetics class, it’s not entirely wrong? I think the optimum distance is in the neighborhood of single-digit cousin relations, like 6-9th. You end up getting the best of your own greater genome w/ enough diversity.
IRL experience has tended to prove that out to me, pretty much all my biggest problem-child friends were some kind of half-breed
