apart from M$ Surface Pro 8 with 16 GB that rocks but is a bit big, I have also smaller Windows tablet and it turns out 1 of 2 USB-C ports of this tablet supports fully USB-C display: I connected my epic mobile LG display and it works purrfectly
so:
Lesson learned: never give up, never surrender, try all USB-C output ports and one of them might support display output (DP, but be shure that you tested given USB-C cable successfully that it carries display signal for shure):
