npub16uk4yyw47haxwl0klhh7lcx3qatkyqmpc6gc4hwru3qedaeuueeqqkpv7k (npub16uk…pv7k) Nobody has a good chance of winning as a 3rd party in the US under the current way of doing things. And, under current congressional rules, even if they won, they would be useless.
I find no reason a third party couldn't succeed. Neither the GOP or the Dems would help them with their agenda.
The new party would have to focus on down ticket for at least two cycles before they could expect to stand a chance in the presidential election.
I spent some time analyzing this back around 2000. I think if a libertarian party were to concentrate on (then) 22 particular districts, they could get over ten seats. If a right center party would concentrate on purple districts, they would win. Most people are right center fiscally and left center socially.
That is why some country's conservative parties do so well, they are really right center. But, every one of them has a tendency to follow their far right given half a chance.
