it's crazy how regressive taxation is in Spain. first, because all goods and services have 20% VAT tacked on, but also, you pay income tax no matter how small your salary is. plus, people who are self-employed ("autonomos") get **wrecked** by income tax, which is awful because a lot of companies skirt labor laws by working through autonomos. like, these are specifically the people who can least afford huge tax bills.
