I got an Rigol DS1054Z for about 400 USD some years ago and I'm happy with it. It's an entry level four channel oscilloscope. The DS1054Z+ variant also has digital inputs, so I think it can be used as a logic analyzer.

Pros:
* Very affordable
* Four channels
* Simple protocol decoding
* Screenshots to USB or ethernet
* XY mode
* Automatic measurements (frequency, Vpp, Vrms, etc)
Cons:
* UI slightly laggy
* FFT function not very useful
The Rigol DHO914S also looks sweet. I've seen one IRL. but not played with it yet.
The Saleae logic analyzer is a sweet tool to have. If you don't care about fancy analog measurements, it might be an even better fit for you. (The Saleaes do analog too, but I haven't tried it.)

There are very cheap logic analyzers available. I've used one of them together with the Sigrok software on Linux.
