Doing a historical dive into the Primal server caching debate, which just as a pure topology debate is quite interesting. The note from below is from over two years ago.

One thing that hasn't come to pass is most clients using server caching and this both keeping everyone honest and providing multiple nostr backups. There are bits and pieces, Ditto perhaps going the farthest, but what hasn't' happened is a two-level nostr where on the read side pretty much all larger clients tap into either their own cache relay or one provided by a third party.

Would this have been a good thing? Why didn't it happen? I think these are really interesting questions.
