I hate when adults use "I used to have to do worse" as an excuse for mistreating youths. Like, it was expected of me to ride my electric bike to and from the bus stop every day (20 min ride). Normally would be fine...except for the expectation that it was EVERY DAY no matter what.
So guess what ended up happening? I had to ride it home through a rainstorm which permanently damaged my eardrums due to the mixture of cold wind + cold water, going into my ears at 20 miles per hour.
Just because your parents made you do outrageous things as a kid and you lived to tell the tale DOESN'T MEAN it wasn't harmful. For example, SAFE TRANSPORTATION IN BAD CONDITIONS IS IMPORTANT FOR KIDS.
I'm so sick of "well I used to walk 5 miles in negative degree weather to school!" YEAH AND THAT WAS TERRIBLE AND YOU COULD'VE GOTTEN HURT.
