An interesting thing I’ve noticed in Chinese product demonstration videos is how roughly they treat their products. As a person growing up with the concept of “mechanical sympathy”, I treat my possesion with gentleness and care, so they look good and work well for as long as possible. I want my product demos to treat the objects with care and respect.
But Chinese product selection sensibilities carry a different value: a product is high quality when it can withstand abuse, when it’s tough and sturdy, and doesn’t need a lot of care to continue working.
