they just can't help but mess with it. If it ain't broken, don't fix it. Bitcoin should be feature-complete now. Maintenance only going forward. But I'm sure that's not what will happen.
In particular soft-forking some bullshit in there (like covenants) that can be exploited or have unintended consequences is the biggest threat to bitcoin.
