I would interpret this mostly within the framework of the ongoing political crisis, the decline of centrism.
Following the breakthrough of the far-right more and more of the European centre-right is adopting similar tactics based on reactionary culture war, to prop up their declining vote.
And now climate/green is seen by them as a useful wedge issue, along with transphobia and racism. This then shifts the overton window for the entire political elite.
