Pre-state Israel did try to make peace with Palestinians by accepting UN resolution 181. Palestinians rejected not only that opportunity for statehood but all the subsequent ones as well because statehood was never the goal. The goal was (and still is) to thwart any Jewish sovereignty and self determination, two-state solution be damned.
I get that you wish all the post Holocaust Jews had simply died after every Western country rejected them (look up displaced person camps), we are so very sorry to disappoint you.
