by squatting and deadlifting without a belt, and now because of those injuries i can't do either exercise anymore. it's a real shame because i was pretty damn strong too (for a natural lifter anyway).
do your lumbar spine a favor and get a good weighlifting belt. i recommend a sturdy thick leather one. wear it tight enough to where it's almost uncomfortable. you will feel the difference in your ability to control the weight and your strength will go up more reliably.
