I wouldn't say they're my thoughts, just recently read about some. It uses a different curve with some nice properties, such as allowing for point addition defined by a single formula (bitcoins kinda has a few cases that have to be handled differently); this means faster performance when creating signatures etc, as well as better against side channel attack (I think) which I don't claim to understand well, but you imagine a computer that has to run different algos, and someone could "listen" to the cpu and tell when algo performs differing beaches of some calculations). Also it allows for slightly better point compression I believe
