It's long bothered me that the equipotential surfaces seem conflated with the surfaces of constant |g|. The Google "AI" directly claims they are the same thing, probably just reflecting the fact that everyone claims it. I just figured that if I did the math the two surfaces would almost coincide and that's why people say this - but a priori I can't see why they would be so.
