Eurovision is a singing competition whose title that doesn't refer to singing or music - but to a show to view (« vision »).
It doesn’t have a theme but a vague slogan « United by music ».
The 2024 (European?) edition was sponsored by a US company with an Arabic-sounding name (Moroccanoil).
You can vote before hearing a single song, for a country not necessarily in Europe, by choosing the song of a singer or group who doesn’t necessarily have the nationality of the country.
The goal is to choose one winner among more than 20 candidates who sometimes sing in English, sometimes in their native language – but it’s never translated, subtitled or explained.
The results are presented live and with great pomp from the four corners of the globe by a "pro" jury that voted… the day before.
What is the purpose / real objective of this event?
To create an international live variety show? To launch singles internationally? To launch artists internationally?
Who pays?
Indirectly the taxpayers since it’s organized by the association of national public broadcasters...
But primarily the local and national authorities of the host country.
