My kid came over last night to hang out for NYE. She has a full time job and volunteers a couple of nights a week for a non-profit so she knows a pretty wide array of people.
Even so I was shocked to hear about the young people she knows/knew with cancer right now. Her coworker's husband died of fast acting cancer, leaving two young kids. Her volunteer boss has terminal stage four cancer that came out of nowhere, 30 years old. Another coworker is just hospitalized all the time now. [1]
