A reason journalists go harder on centrists and the left is because those groups are *affected* by journalism, and making an impact is how journalists have careers.
So if Trump now seems vulnerable, it creates incentives for journalists and editors to keep up the pressure, just for career reasons.
(I'm not an expert on American politics, but I've been a journalist for 20 years, so I'm looking at this dynamic from inside my professional culture and in terms of its political economy.)
