It was Foobar2000 I initially missed on switching, but I've found a couple (Audacious and Strawberry) that come close enough that I feel comfortable with them.
Though the OP's post is really less about having players with skins and more about the time period I feel like. I perhaps didn't acknowledge that as well as I meant to in my post either.
