(Q1) What happens if a mathematician inverts the SHA-256 hash function?

(A1) Let’s steelman the question for the sake of argument. Could a quantum or AGI computer break, hack, overcome, or invert the SHA-256 has function? Here’s my go-to answer:

“These numbers have nothing to do with the technology of the devices; they are the maximums that thermodynamics will allow. And they strongly imply that brute-force attacks against 256-bit keys will be infeasible until computers are built from something other than matter and occupy something other than space.”

TL;DR: Even if a quantum computer could theoretically hack/invert the hash function or overcome the digital computation constraint, nothing can physically bypass the energy constraint also required by the worldwide electrical grid to break/fork the blockchain network. That would violate the laws of thermodynamics. With #Bitcoin , your money is secured by the laws of the universe.
