Personally, I've been thinking for about 23 months that a "public ledger" that simply cuts off direct ties with identity by public keys is a compromise, as Satoshi Nakamoto described in his paper, and that a "shared ledger masking actual data" that is verifiable based on cryptography is the ideal form.
