I have no good sources for that period. Its interesting, lots can be speculated... In the Roman period, Alexandria was the epicenter of neo platonic, Orphic, and early Christian thought - in that order. Each led to the next.
Not Ptolemaic, but look into Zosimos of Panopylus. I'm sure I spelled that wrong.
