Would that the world be filled with more reasonable people...

Violence is being turned to because people (I think rightfully in this case) are having their home place invaded by those who wish them I'll, and instead of those who wield power (another issue to deal with in another discussion) standing up for those who are reasonable and peaceful, they are using that power to suppress those who have more right to be concerned about the artificial changes in their communities, especially when it comes to violence done to their children.

But this is all as it is supposed to be. This has been the plan all along. Divisiveness foments consolidation of yet more power in the hands of a few. It is disgusting and could easily be stopped without violence, but, those in power have chosen a path where you will be enslaved if you do not fight for your freedom, in many cases physically.

I share your sentiment about growing up in a very urban environment. While not quite as diverse as your early life, growing up in NYC could lead me to say much of the same things. It did positively shape me to be more cognizant of the enjoyment of different peoples that came together to live in a weird and wild (different from the wilds of nature, obviously) place. But I could never live in a big city these days. The nostalgia for the past is tempered by stark history, a fuller view that while you may find good anywhere, darkness gets deeper in places where too many people congregate. Thus, I wish to go live on the side of a mountain where those that might make the journey are truly worthy company, and those that will not shall not break bread with me.
