#WritersCoffeeClub 10/30 Did the educational system inspire you or put you off writing?
Pre-college, I had no formal creative writing instruction. I wrote on my own time.
In college, I felt out of step with my peers in my creative writing workshops b/c I wanted to write genre fiction. Wound up not going for an MFA so I never had a fight about it.
Over time, I learned to use my near-obsessive attention to detail for good ends.
"Dare to suck" was always the best advice I got.
