I disagree. I think good manners and protocol are good. I also think that good manners have given me an edge in survival. When necessary you unleash the best but otherwise you don't expend unnecessary energy arguing or disrespecting others.
Respecting is not about agreeing. This is important. I have an extremely foul mouth and I've been disrespectful many times. However, most of the time I find that I get joy out of being kind.
I'm not by any means an expert.
