#WritersCoffeeClub 1. What makes your WIP (or most recent work) stand out from the crowd? Don't be shy.
- Inspired by a true story*: Based on historical records of a Korean queen who lived 2,000 years ago, a fabulously rich woman who outlived two husbands and founded two kingdoms.
- Problematic fave: No good kings here, everyone from queens to refugees is a self-interested agent, though with huge power disparities and resulting abuses.
- Cross-genre appeal: Blends the appeals of sprawling soap opera, romance, and epic #historicalFiction with a side of fantasy.
- Complexities of colonialism: Chinese colonialism is a source of tension and strife, but not in a "China bad, Korea good" boring jingoistic way.
- Queer, brainweird, always been here: Neurodivergent and queer people in the ancient world! Fat romantic leads and action heroes! Cherished, formidable disabled characters!
* Yes, in the Hollywood sense!

In my defense records of her are very brief and I had to fill in a lot of her life and story.
