I'm sure if you went back to 2010 and described today's politics to centrist journalists, politicians and academics and asked what they would do in such a world, I'm sure you'd hear lots of rhetoric about joining the resistance and opposing fascism to the last breath.
Instead we got normalisation of fascism, by most of the people who see themselves as the independently-minded.
