it's a nice thought but means you'll never get anything of scale for the general public that's OSS.
there is a place for more botique/focused projects, where everyone has skin in the game. but if we don't want the apple/google/microsoft behometh to own most of the world's eyeballs, we also need OSS projects with funding, a diverse dev crew, and some way to provide user support/feedback well.
