Not to mention that the now-ubiquitous abbreviation “regex” was invented by Jeffrey Friedl, and publicised in his book _Mastering Regular Expressions_.
Prior to Friedl’s campaign, the usual abbreviation was “regexp”, which as he pointed out is rather a mouthful to pronounce.
