I still say the flash point for all this was the election of Obama.
I’m not gonna lie; I was surprised when he won, but white people have been in shock ever since.
There has been a blatant attack on voting rights and an uptick in gerrymandering, as well as political violence being almost exclusively right-leaning for the last decade.
Even though white people, on the whole, benefited from Obama’s policies, the symbolism of a Black leader of the US was debilitating to the white imagination.
And they have not recovered. They have shown they would rather have fascism than let that happen again.
