I am relatively new on #nostr. I appreciate being here, what nostr stands for and the open way of communication.
Simultaneously, I am somewhat irritated and surprised about the general consensus of people here seeming to reflexively hate anything remotely “woke”. Taking aside what the idea of wokeness has recently been co-opted for; At the base being ‘woke’ simply means being aware: being aware of– and speaking up to inequalities and injustices within our societies.
Maybe I am so shocked because I somehow thought that, even if one doesn’t experience discrimination first hand, one can and *should* be still able to recognize those inequalities and one’s own privileges. And even if one doesn’t fight actively against their remedy, at the very least acknowledge them and don’t belittle them or even worse: dismiss them as non existent.
Don’t have such fragile little egos, people! Being privileged doesn’t mean that you are a bad person and it sure as hell doesn’t mean that you have a easy life! You can be privileged regarding one aspect and marginalized in another.
Also don’t confuse freedom of speech and “having an opinion” with a free pass to overrule other people’s actual lived experiences on topics you may not have lived experience with. That’s presumptuous. #introductions
