I never thought the singular they in the context "we don't know the gender" would be seen as "political".
Not to mention that the use of "they/them" pronouns or otherwise by an individual will be something I will respect no matter what. If someone says "I use my maiden name again" I just do it, just as I use someone's preferred pronouns. But that was not even what I mentioned about the revision to them.
