Right, yeah, I double checked other definitions, but it does seem like "triviality" is typically a hallmark of pedantry.
Of course, the flip side is that there are certainly people who cry "pedant" when someone brings up pertinent, but uncomfortable or inconvenient details. "War crimes" sounds like a pretty fertile context for people to want to ignore crucial details and shoot the messenger.
