For a completely bullet proof Linux machine:
1. Pick a desktop computer. Laptops are cool, but they need battery management, good touchpads support, wifi, fingerprint readers, etc. Linux is not great with those. An ethernet wired desktop computer is much simpler driver-wise.
2. An atomic distribution. I use Fedora Silverblue but any will do. Something virtually unbreakable. Only user management is to upgrade and reboot once in a while.
