It's like the absence of inflation breaks something in their brains and makes their logical faculties short circuit and malfunction until they manage to somehow bridge the gap with absurd leaps of rationalization that brings the whole back to inflation where things make sense to them again and they can breathe. They don't need inflation to finance their wars and deficit spending. They need it for reality to be logically consistent. They need it to retain their very sanity.
