You may have waited too long, best to update regularly. Knowing how to use apt-mark is a must. (apt pin is the new way to do it, but I like apt-mark's simplicity) Might need to back up your home folder and reinstall.
Else, try using apt or work manually using `sudo apt-mark hold *package name*` for each package that's blocking the update. You'll then need to un hold those packages at various points.
