The scientific community is suffering a well-deserved crisis of confidence. Cancel culture is the obvious catalyst; if people aren't free to say what they think, how can we trust what they say?
But I think the root cause is hubris. Anyone with intellectual curiosity can make an observation - about health, technology, nutrition, etc. But it takes some next-level arrogance, bred in an ideological echo chamber, to assume you (and only you) know all there is to know about the subject.
