Web apps are special kinds of websites which can be turned into apps, you can install them without using an app store. They provide notifications, have their own dedicated icon, and work pretty much like normal apps.
You can install web apps for Mastodon, PeerTube, Pixelfed, BookWyrm, Friendica etc.
