The publisher Penguin got its name because the founder wanted a logo that was “dignified but flippant,” and his secretary suggested a penguin.
Random House got its name because the founders planned to publish books on random topics.
Since the two companies merged (becoming Penguin Random House), I refer to the new company as "Random Penguin."
It's the whimsy the founders would have wanted.
