I just realized how unusual my university education was. While my friends in business school were wrestling with essays and sit down exams, I watched TV and worked in the community newspaper and radio station. They complained that I had it easy. I told them unlike them, who had exams once a quarter or so, my exams were every day.
I was graded on my work in the radio station and paper each time I attended.
The only essays I wrote was for media law and creative writing.
I really loved that 80% of my grading came from project work. It just fits my brain.
Colleges need to abandon essays at this point and come up with creative ways to test and mold the cognitive abilities of kids or we're done for.
