Spent the weekend at a resort in Lake Tahoe. There were three orange pilling moments:
1) The bellhop;
2) The Boomer Guest in the Sauna; and
3) The Recreation Center manager

The Bellhop…
Despite not knowing much about it, the bellhop was eager to receive bitcoin. I made him download Blue Wallet and sent on-chain bitcoin. Also gave him a list of books and a web link to some learning resources (bitcoin Q + A). I overpaid on fees, and felt a little regret not onboarding him onto a lightning wallet app.

The Boomer…
The Boomer was curious about bitcoin. We had a longish talk about the technology and the difference between Bitcoin and other “Crypto” assets. He said that given the recent bank runs, he’s been thinking a lot about how best to secure his wealth that he intends to pass on to his children. Was already thinking about a possible 1-3% allocation to bitcoin. Turns out that he has an account with Fidelity so I said he should talk to one of the advisers there or at least download their report on Bitcoin. I’m hoping our conversation will push him over the edge.

The Recreation Manager…
At the end of a snowshoeing experience, for which I was the only one that signed up, I asked the guy if he accepted tips. He said yes, but that he didn’t want a tip from me because it was cool… all was good. I said good because all I had was a $10 CAD note or Bitcoin. He laughed and said he wasn’t into crypto. While stepping out of our gear I explained why I thought Bitcoin was not “crypto” and summing it up as Bitcoin being money for the people, by the people. From there he downloaded Wallet of Satoshi and I sent him 30K sats. I could see the delight when the sats appeared almost instantly. I regret not leaving him with the educational material that I had left the bellhop with.

So in closing, I’m feeling like a bitcoiner on a mission right now. People are looking for alternatives and thirsty. The bitcoin maximalist playbook is resonating. It’s an exciting time.
