What the New York Times set in motion, and led thereafter, was a media crusade. It may not have been the intent, but the easily foreseeable result was to undermine the Democratic party, all the while buttressing the Republicans with ongoing normalization of extremism.
One of those parties plans to end democracy and most of the freedoms we still have. The other is, right now, the last, best defense.
The Times chose to help democracy's enemies.
