I personally don't think Xen has any kind of atmosphere for that, but it's really the most unfinished part of Half-Life lore (if there is any lore to begin with), that's never been properly brought up since HL1 and it's expansions.
Black Mesa did something different here, but it's really up to the modders to continue these ideas.
Please just don't make yet another remake.
