I think it's safe for Eugen not to do anything on the largest instances, and those who don't want to compromise and have bytes about them relayed back and forth to Meta's servers can either join smaller instances that block Threads, or run their own.
This could be an occasion for Mastodon to really decentralize, but without a needless ideological war that could threaten its integrity.
