I DO know of many writer friends who have been shafted by their agents, because they valued their relationships with publishers and editors over the needs of their clients, because they were playing the float with author payments, because of incompetence, or because they were out-right stealing money from their clients. My advice to all new writers is, forget agents. Do the legwork to sell your book, then get an IP lawyer for the negotiations.
